DETECTIVES investigating a stabbing near a town centre police station have arrested a 25-year-old man.

The attack in a Stockton churchyard in the early hours of Thursday, left a 31-year-old man with a punctured lung. The victim managed to walk the few yards to the nearby police station and told officers his wallet had been stolen. He was taken to North Tees Hospital where he was detained for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. A man was arrested yesterday morning and is helping police with their inquiries.

Boy found: Kieran Graham, 14, of Fatfield, Washington, was found safe and well yesterday after police appealed for help in tracing him. He walked off on Sunday after an argument with his family.

First target: Disabled fundraiser Dave Abrutat has arrived at Land's End after completing the first four weeks of a 3,000-mile round Britain challenge. Mr Abrutat, of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, left Tower Bridge, London, on May 10 in his marathon effort to raise money for the National Blood Service.

Chalets going: Two blocks of disused chalets are to be demolished after being targeted by arsonists three times in ten days. The 18 chalets on Scarborough's South Bay are to be pulled down because they are unsafe. The work, due to start on Monday, will be part of a £1.4m scheme to remove derelict buildings around the former South Bay pool and landscape the area.

Morris fair: Morris dancers from all parts of Britain will be in Scarborough this weekend for the three-day annual Scarborough Fair Morris Dance Festival. About 400 are expected to be taking part, appearing in the resort's streets, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Filey and Scarborough Spa.

Investment planned: The North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op is to invest £600,000 in renovating the Strathmore House funeral home in Stockton Road, Hartlepool, which has operated in the town for more than 50 years.

Missing woman: Police are concerned for Susan Howes (also known as Atherton), 35, who walked out of a psychiatric unit at South Tyneside Hospital, South Shields, yesterday morning.
