MORE than 300 people have been made redundant after administrators for food group Albert Fisher stopped production at one of its plants.
KPMG had originally wanted to sell Albert Fisher, which employs people in Newcastle and York, as a going concern but has been unable to find a buyer for the whole business.
It has been reviewing individual divisions and yesterday said production at the King's Lynn plant, which produces frozen chips and vegetables, had ceased with immediate effect and the loss of about 320 jobs.
There was a glimmer of hope for other Albert Fisher workers, including 340 staff in Gosforth and 280 in York.
Joint administrator receiver Mick McLoughlin said there was interest in the other seafood and chilled divisions, and offers for them were expected on or before Friday.
