A terraced house in Fenby Avenue, Darlington, was badly damaged by fire on Saturday. Firefighters were called to the property at 1.30am to tackle a blaze in a ground floor room. A man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

CIGARETTES TAKEN: Nineteen packets of Superkings cigarettes were stolen from a Renault Clio in Cheapside, Spennymoor, between 6pm and 9pm on Saturday.

ABUSE DEBATE: Sedgefield Neighbourhood Watch is hosting a drugs, alcohol and solvent awareness evening in at the parish hall on Wednesday, at 7pm. It will be followed by a wine and cheese party.

COUNCIL MEETS: Spennymoor Town Council meets tomorrow, in the town hall, at 6.45pm.

HOUSE RAID: An Oritron digital video disc player and discs were stolen from a house in Alston Walk, Newton Aycliffe, between 8.45am and 9.15am on Sunday.

TOWN COUNCIL: Shildon Town Council meets at the council offices, in Civic Hall Square, tonight, at 6.30pm.

STEREO STOLEN: A stereo music player, television, portable television and Sharp mini disc player, worth a total of £700, were stolen from a house in Faraday Street, Ferryhill, between 6.30pm on Friday and 1.15pm on Saturday.

SHOP DAMAGE: Firefighters were called to a blaze at the Roundabout Fish Bar, in Yarm Road, Darlington, on Sunday at 10.15am. A deep fat fryer was badly damaged in the fire.

NEW DESIGN: Ottakars book store, in Prebend Row, Darlington, has applied to the borough council for permission to install a new shop front.

SHED FIRE: A garden shed and the kitchen roof of a neighbouring house in Sycamore Grove, West Cornforth, were damaged by fire at 6.30pm on Saturday.

NEW SHELTERS: Three bus shelters have been installed in Darlington, two on Yarm Road and one on Whinfield Road. New bus lay-bys have also been provided, two in Whinfield Road and two in Edinburgh Drive, Hummersknott.

CENTRE RAIDED: The rear office window of the Pease Way Medical Centre, Newton Aycliffe, was smashed and an attempt made to steal a computer between noon and 7pm on Saturday. About £150 worth of damage was caused.

CABINET SESSION: Sedgefield Borough Council's cabinet meets on Thursday, in the council offices, Green Lane, Spennymoor, from 10am.

GIVE BLOOD: A blood donor session is being held at Crook Civic Hall on Tuesday, July 30, from 3pm to 7pm.
