FERRYHILL Town Council has appealed for performers to take part in a fundraising event to allow an annual pensioners' trip to continue.

The council runs trips to South Shields for pensioners every year and used to hold fundraising events to pay for it.

But these have dropped off over the years, and although there is £600 left in the kitty, that will not stretch to another year.

Councillor Charlie Magee has given £300 towards the trip from his allocated fund from Durham County Council. Seven coaches will be leaving for the coast on Thursday.

But with no funds left, the council is trying to develop some fundraising ideas.

A concert will be held in the town's working men's club, at a date to be arranged, and one entertainer has already agreed to take part.

More acts are wanted to complete the line-up, with all money raised from the eventing funding next year's trip.

Anyone who would like to take part in the show is asked to contact Ferryhill Town Council on (01740) 652157.
