AN angry father who kidnapped a teenager after he was cheeky to his partner has been jailed for 18 months.

Former soldier Ian Jobling, 29, bundled the 17-year-old into the back of his car before driving him to a country road, telling him he was going to die.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Jobling was outraged after the youth made a nuisance of himself outside his home trying to attract the attention of his 13-year-old step-daughter.

He took along Michael Dolan, 25, who was jailed for nine months yesterday after it was accepted that he did not play an active part in the youth's ordeal.

Julie Clemitson, prosecuting, said that Jobling, armed with a stick, abducted the youngster in a Peterlee street.

"He was driven down an unlit country road. Jobling was telling him he was going to die," she said.

"The car stopped and Jobling pulled him forcibly from the car. He was put in a headlock and punched in the face and then kicked to the sides.

"Jobling said if he said anything to anyone he would come back and kill him. They drove away leaving him alone."

The youngster was seen by a doctor after his ordeal but was found to be suffering just minor injuries.

Jobling, of Gibson Grove, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to kidnap and common assault.

Dolan, of Miller Crescent, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to kidnap at an earlier hearing.

Defence barrister Chris Morrison said: "The motive in this case was nothing more than to check a cheeky, unpleasant, ill-mannered little juvenile."
