Police have warned people to be on their guard after reports of bogus house callers in Northallerton.

Two men, claiming to be from the water board, attempted to trick their way into a house in the town last Thursday. It is thought to be connected to a similar incident in Stokesley just days earlier.

FOND FAREWELL: Pupils, parents and friends attended the final assembly of the school year last week to pay tribute to headteacher Pat Bumby, who has retired after more than 19 years at Arkengarthdale Church of England School.

SHOW APPEAL: More than 200 people visited the AD exhibition, looking at 2,000 years of Christianity in Britain, during its first week. The exhibition runs in the Congregational Church, Reeth until Saturday and is open every day from 2pm to 5pm. Admission is free.

EDUCATION BOOST: City of York Council's library service has won a BT Lifelong Learning Award worth £25,000 to help youngsters develop their communication skills through computer games.

BELLS APPEAL: The bells appeal committee of All Saints' Church, Pickhill, raised £275 for appeal funds when they manned a stall in Ripon Market Place on Saturday.

WHIST NIGHT: A whist drive takes place tonight at the Ings Garth community centre, in Pickering. The event starts at 7pm and will raise money for centre funds.
