Wolviston moved to the top of the table when they made it four wins out of six at Stokesley SC where they just had the edge following an evenly contested game.

Andy Steele gave them a lead with a penalty which was hotly disputed by the home side but within ten minutes Stokesley were level when Jonathan Newton rounded off a good move involving a number of players.

There were only ten minutes remaining when leading scorer Steel struck the winner and with Birtley Town losing to Annfield Plain, Wolviston moved into pole position.

Birtley Town stay second despite conceding their unbeaten record to Annfield Plain who finished 3-0 ahead after taking an interval lead through John Moore.

Birtley, who had scored 23 goals in their previous five games including 12 against Cleadon SC at the weekend, failed to reply and further strikes from Michael Murray and Kevin Armstrong earned the Plain an unexpected victory.

Boldon CA have made a good start and have the same number of points as Birtley Town but with an inferior goals difference.

They saw off the challenge from winless Ryhope CW as David Graham, Mark Williams and Craig Botcherby (pen) earned them a comfortable 3-0 success.

Stanley United are fourth top and they took their goals tally to 21 from six matches defeating Ferryhill Athletic 6-0. Aaron Scott (2), David Craig (2), Michael Dixon and Paul Freeman were all on target.

North Shields were another side to go nap and no fewer than three of their five goals in the game with Cleadon SC came from the penalty spot. Chris Birkbeck converted two and Barry Gibson one with Danny Charlton and Eddie Freeman adding to the woes of bottom-of-the-table Cleadon who have conceded 34 goals in six outings.

Three players were sent off when Harton and Westoe met Jarrow. One visiting player was dismissed and two from the home side received their marching orders following an incident just before half time. Stephen Tate scored the only goal in the second period to earn Harton and Westoe their first victory.

Darlington RA had two players ordered from the field before losing to an additional-time goal by Ben Walker which enabled New Marske to win for the fourth time in five games.

Barnard Castle Glaxo rallied after going behind to Redcar Town for whom David Tait found the net. The home side played much better in the second half and equalised when Stuart Murray fired home a penalty. Thereafter, they struck the woodwork three times but were unable to find a winning goal.
