MISTER Cosmi travelled to Germany on Sunday and landed the Listed Preis des Casino Baden-Baden, sparkling in the spa town and making all under Kevin Darley.

This gave Mark Johnston his third German win in a month, but stablemate Sir George Turner was only third in the Group 3 Frstenburg-Rennan later.

Meanwhile, at Ovreroll in Norway, Richard Fahey's Vintage Premium was fifth in a similar Group 3 contest. Fahey won at Ripon on both days of the garden course's meeting.

Darley was injured in a paddock fall at Catterick on Wednesday and had to give up his rides, but Joe Fanning, recovered from his own hand injury, took the mount on Miss Holly and won.

Lynda Ramsden took the last at York a week last Wednesday and followed up on the final day of the meeting when Fergal Lynch partnered Logsdail.

On Monday at Epsom, Joe Fanning won on David Nicholls' Atlantic Viking, beating Dale Gibson on Mick Easterby's Elvington Boy and Frankie Dettori on the Ramsden runner, Bishops Court.

Tim Easterby sent out a Thirsk double on Friday. He had to walk to the start to keep Timing settled before winning the two-mile handicap under young apprentice David Allan.

The lad then teamed up with Nigel Tinkler's Mary Jane in the apprentice race, which she duly won again, just as last year. The Langton trainer went on to Newcastle in the evening to win with Apache Point.

Malton's open day was a great success on Sunday and local track Beverley saw many winners from the racing town on both weekend days. John Quinn and John Wainwright were on the scoreboard Saturday, both thanks to Robert Winston. Stanley dentist-cum-trainer Paul Johnson had a first win with Hormuz, partnered by apprentice Luke Fletcher.

Ripon lad Elliott Looney, 17, made his first ride in public a winning one on Ivory Bay for James Hetherton on Sunday, while Fergal Lynch won for Kevin Ryan. Ryan has been flying this week, many of his wins for the Platinum club, including a ninth from Platinum Duke.

Redcar's Saturday night meeting saw the scoreline Middleham 3 Valley 2 - Patrick Haslam, Don Enrico and Chris Thornton from the moors each winning, with the two Vale of York Davids, Barron and Nicholls, also scooping one apiece. Thornton followed up at Ripon when Oriental Empress won for the fifth time in six outings.

The jumps world was bowled over by Tony McCoy this week when the champion surpassed the all-time career wins record set by Richard Dunwoody. However, it was at Cartmel's bank holiday meeting that Middleham trainer Patrick Haslam brought him one closer when he partnered Sunridge Fairy.

Bolam permit holder Alan Moore had his second-ever win the same day at the Lakeland course. Norman Mason was on the scoresheet both days, while Darlington handler Chris Wilson sent out his first winner on Monday.
