GOLF enthusiasts are being invited to take part in a charity tournament to help fund crime-fighting measures.

The competition, organised by the Durham and District Crime Prevention Panel in conjunction with Durham City's Pub Watch scheme will tee off on Tuesday September 10.

Held at Durham City Golf Club at Langley Moor it will be the fourth year running that the tournament has been held and organisers say there are still some places left in the tournament.

Up to 20 teams will be involved, each consisting of three members and an entry fee of £20 will include lunch.

In its first three years the event generated £2,500 towards a number of crime prevention measures in the area.

Projects to benefit to date include North Durham Domestic Violence Forum and the Kids on Track scheme.

The competition will get under way at 9am, with trophies being awarded for both the best individual score and the winning team.

A draw will take place to allocate starting times.

Tim Thompson, a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator and a member of the crime prevention panel, said: "It is always a very enjoyable day for those taking part.

"Everyone gets in a good round of golf while at the same time doing their bit to help combat crime in the area."
