THE police sergeant who found stress therapy in officiating at a crunch Premiership clash was back in uniform for the first time in three weeks yesterday.

Sgt Nigel Miller reported for duty on the busy custody desk at Bishop Auckland police station five days after acting as assistant referee at Saturday's explosive match between Leeds and Manchester United at Elland Road.

The 42-year-old had been given sick leave by his doctor because he was suffering from stress and was advised that exercise would be therapeutic.

Even so, colleagues were stunned to see him running the line when they switched on their TVs to watch one of the biggest games of the year.

Sgt Miller was due to officiate at tomorrow's Tyne-Wear derby between Newcastle and Sunderland until league bosses switched him to a lower profile First Division fixture, Bradford's home game with Burnley.
