A MAN leading the war against chatroom paedophiles is to deliver a warning in North-East next week.

Alisdair Gillespie, an active member of the Home Office Internet Task Force for Child Protection, is giving a free lecture at the University of Teesside on Monday, to which parents are invited, together with representatives of law enforcement, child protection and volunteer agencies.

Mr Gillespie, who advised on the design of a cinema advert warning young people about the potential dangers of Internet chatrooms, said: "The lecture will deal will detail the dangers posed to children by the Internet.

"Cases and studies over the past two years have illustrated the dangers from child pornography, grooming over the Internet and the growth in child procurement. I will also talk about the proposed new laws and how they will be implemented."

Mr Gillespie, the only UK university representative on the task force, appointed by Home Secretary Jack Straw, is a senior lecturer in applied socio-legal studies at the Middlesbrough campus.
