YOUNG people in Hartlepool see youth workers as helpful, fun and approachable, an independent study has found.

Youngsters who attend youth clubs in the town were given questionnaires and took part in interviews about how youth services could be improved. Those who do not attend clubs were also interviewed, to find out why they shun the service.

Youth development officer Peter Davies said: "We are very pleased with the report, particularly the reference to youth workers being perceived as helpful, good fun, approachable, supportive and friendly.

"However, some room for improvement was highlighted by young people questioned, particularly in terms of improving and updating the appearance of youth centres and increasing facilities to allow for the provision of a broader range of activities."
