A DRIVER was in intensive care last night after dragging himself to a nearby house for help after his car left the road and careered into a field.

Police found the grey Mini Cooper between Harrogate and Spofforth in North Yorkshire after they were alerted by a shocked homeowner, roused by the blood-spattered victim banging on the door about 3am yesterday.

The man, who has not been identified by police, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital, where he was being treated for serious head and chest injuries yesterday.

The A661 was closed for several hours while the car was recovered and police examined the scene.

Accident investigators hope to trace other drivers who may have seen what happened or the Mini shortly before the accident, which happened at about 2.30am yesterday. Anyone who can help is asked to telephone (01423) 539474.
