WASTE management company Yorwaste is planning to deal with the region's next potential waste mountain.
After dealing with thousands of obsolete fridges and freezers, the Northallerton- business, is turning its attention to unwanted electronic and electrical appliances.
A European Union directive means that Britain has to recover and recycle three quarters of its waste electrical and electronic equipment by the end of 2005.
Yorwaste, the company responsible for the management of household and commercial waste in North Yorkshire and City of York, is already gearing up to divert the equipment from its landfill sites.
At present, equipment to be recycled is removed at a site near York, but Yorwaste hopes to build a facility that can shred bulk materials.
