LANGBAURGH'S police chief, John Kelly, is to become Cleveland Police's most senior detective.
After two years as divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Kelly is moving to become Cleveland's director of crime.
He will be replaced by former Middlesbrough CID head, acting Detective Chief Superintendent Adrian Roberts.
Mr Roberts, acting director of crime in Cleveland, hit the headlines when he escaped a £60 fine and three penalty points on his licence when he was caught speeding by his own force.
He was not punished after he said he could not remember who was driving his car when it was caught in the speed trap.
Both men take up their new posts on January 20.
Mr Kelly devised Operation Trident, which targeted drug dealers and other criminals in Langbaurgh last year.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough councillor Dave McLuckie, a member of Cleveland police authority, paid tribute to his work.
He said: "The district is showing its lowest crime levels for years and it is all down to John."
