PEOPLE in the Shildon area are being invited to a day of fun, relaxation and information at Jubilee Fields Community Centre on Monday, January 27, from 10am to 3pm.

It has been organised by the Pioneering Care Partnership, Age Concern, PRT Carers Centre, and Health Promotion, and features reiki, reflexology, stress management and smoking cessation. A free lunch is available and the first 12 people to book a place on the crime prevention workshop will receive a free personal attack alarm. DISCS STOLEN: A compact disc case containing 48 assorted CDs, £10 in cash and a tax disc were stolen from a Peugeot 306 in Opal Avenue, Chilton, between 5pm on Saturday and 12.45am on Sunday.

COUNCIL MEETINGS: A meeting of Great Aycliffe Town Council's environment committee will be held today in the council offices, School Aycliffe Lane, Newton Aycliffe, from 7.15pm. It will be followed by a meeting of the recreation committee.

KARATE COURSE: A two-day karate course is being held at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington. The course with sensei (teacher) Tony Heap is being held on Saturday, January 25, from 4pm until 7pm, and on Sunday, January 26, from 11am until 3pm. The price for both days is £12, Saturday only is £8 and Sunday only is £8 for adults and £5 for children.

MEDITATION CLASS: A twice-weekly meditation class begins in Darlington tonight. The sessions, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, will be held at the Atisha Buddhist Centre, in Milton Street, on Tuesdays, and at the Arts Centre, in Vane Terrace, on Thursdays. There is a suggested donation of £4 a class.

FENCE RAISED: The height of fencing to the rear of bungalows at Harrison Close, Shildon, has been raised to prevent youths getting in. The work cost £4,713 and was paid for by Sedgefield Borough Council's tidy estates and community involvement initiative.

TEACHER VISIT: Arthur Berwick, head of languages at Hurworth Comprehensive School, Darlington, is starting a five-day visit to a school near Krakow, in Poland, tomorrow, as part of a project to establish links with schools in Europe.

CAR COURSE: The history of car design and mechanics is the subject of an eight-week course starting at Bennett House, in Horsemarket, Darlington, next Tuesday. The classes take place. For details call (01325) 357801.
