A Hoggarth and Sons Eskvale and Cleveland League

Goldsborough Utd v Whitby Fishermans: Goldsborough started the better team in the only league game to survive the bad weather.

Good work by Dent and Butler put the Fisherman's defence under constant pressure. Goldsborough took the lead in the 15th minute when Dent scored from close range and added a second five minutes later when Welford found the net from an acute angle. The home side continued to dominate and went three goals up when Dent squared the ball to Butler who scored into an empty net. The Whitby team rallied in the second half and pulled a goal back with a close range shot in the 55th minute from Clark. Fisherman then threw men forward and a second goal came in the 70th minute when Roberts converted a cross from the right wing. Goldsborough then took control with Hicks, Stewart and Welford playing well and increased their lead when Dent tuned his defender and shot into the top corner of the net, securing a deserved victory for the home team.

North Riding Challenge Cup Richmond Mavericks v Gt Ayton

With the Richmond pitch unplayable, Gt Ayton put in a lot of effort to make their pitch playable and enable the match to be switched, unfortunately their efforts proved to be in vain as they went down 5-0. Ayton began the game well and dominated the early stages. With Grainge winning the tackles well in midfield and Busby and Murray looking to create a goal they looked to be in control. Richmond withstood this early pressure and towards the end of the first half began to press forward, testing Sonley, in the Ayton goal, with a number of shots from distance. Their efforts were rewarded when a strike from 25 yards gave Sonley no chance and then a defensive error created the opportunity for the second to give them a cushion at the break. Ayton looked for an early goal in the second half to get them back in the game but hopes were dashed when Richmond increased their lead after 5 minutes of the restart.. Richmond were showing why they are the current cup holders with quick breaks to keep the Ayton team on the back foot. In a last effort to win the game ayton made 3 substitutions and moved Sonley from goal to the centre forward position, however this paid no dividends and Richmond went on to score twice more, moving smoothly into the quarter final stage.
