Only Whitley Bay from the Albany Northern League are left in the FA Vase after four clubs crashed out in the fourth round on Saturday.

Durham City crashed out 4-0 at home to Sudbury, but the scoreline flattered the visitors.

Durham boss Billy Cruddas said: "The scoreline was a joke. In the first half we were the better side, and we battered them from then on. But we gave away a bad goal 15 minutes from the end, and we were caught pushing up for the last two."

City went behind after 22 minutes to a goal by Gary Bennett from a free kick, but the turning point came after 75 minutes when a poor pass by Sam Kitchen allowed Bennett to lob Paul Newton from 25 yards.

Bennett and sub Sam Banya completed the scoring late in the game.

Billingham Town went down 3-1 at Gorleston, and manager Allan Robinson was fuming about the Norfolk side's second goal to put them into the lead.

"The ball was rolling quite strongly at a free kick, but the ref allowed play to go on. But on the whole, too many of our players didn't perform."

Gorleston went ahead after 50 minutes with a Danny Ingram penalty, but Town levelled with a free kick by Andy Swalwell from the edge of the box.

But Gorleston scored again through Paul Woolridge and Ingram. Billingham keeper Darren Collier was red-carded after the game.

Northallerton lost 3-0 at home to Burgess Hill from Sussex. They never recovered from a sixth minute goal, and a defensive error cost them another late in the game.

Manager Peter Mulcaster said: "I didn't think that Burgess Hill were a good side. There wasn't anything good about any of their goals. We were beaten by a poor side."

Morpeth went out 3-0 at Maldon, another Eastern League side, again failing to recover from an early goal.

Whitley, the holders, scraped through to the next round after they came from behind to win 2-1 at Wootton Blue Cross.

They went behind after eight minutes to a goal by Danny Griggs, but equalised when Lee Ludlow scored from a rebound.

Whitley improved as the game went on, and they finally broke through again six minutes into extra time when Ludlow scored.
