Spennymoor's new manager Jamie Pollock watched from the stands as his side's promotion challenge faltered in a 3-0 home defeat by North Ferriby.

Pollock, appointed as manager on Friday in succession to Tony Lee, saw another poor display by Moors, who are now virtually out of the reckoning for automatic promotion, and must now concentrate on the battle for a play-off place.

Assistant manager Jason Ainsley said: "Jamie will do well in this job, because he's a winner. He watched from the stands and noticed a few things.

"It was a poor performance, and we should be able to perform better with the lads we've got."

Moors were up against it from the opening few minutes, when North Ferriby striker Vill Powell headed in following a mix up in the Spennymoor defence, and after Moors missed a couple of chances, Powell scored from a rebound just before half time.

Moors enjoyed most of the possession in the second half, but Gavin Knight wrapped up the points near the end.

Bishop Auckland went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at in-form Radcliffe Borough.

But the signs were good that Bishops can climb away from relegation danger.

Manager Brian Honour said: "I'm very encouraged by the performance. We had some good chances, and we did well against a team which is the form team in the division at the moment. A draw would have been a fair result."

Bishops could have taken all three points if Phil Ross hadn't missed when he was clean through, and then Martin O'Riordan hit the post.

But Radcliffe grabbed all three points after 76 minutes, when Richard Landon headed in from a corner.

In the Premier Division, Gateshead climbed away from relegation trouble when they beat Vauxhall Motors 3-2 at the International Stadium. They scored three goals inside the first half hour, through Paul Thompson (2) and David Colvin, and then held on against some strong pressure.

Blyth swopped places with Gateshead after they suffered their third successive league defeat at Gainsborough. They were three down by the 15th minute, but Glen Robson and Scott Emmerson pulled goals back.

Whitby drew 3-3 with Hucknall, for whom former Darlington striker Clint Marcelle scored the equaliser in the last minute.

Whitby were behind twice, but first Craig Veart and then Aaron Wilford equalised, before Veart made it 3-2 with his second penalty of the game.
