THE father of a man found dead in a bizarre circumstances has spoken of the horrific discovery.

Self-employed builder Robert Taylor checked son Boyd's bedroom at the bungalow the pair shared in the hamlet of Milbourne, north of Ponteland, Northumberland, after he failed to join him at work earlier that day.

On pushing open the door he saw his 36-year-old son lying in a pool of blood after apparently beheading himself in a self-made guillotine, timed to drop at precisely 3.30am last Monday.

Mr Taylor, distraught at losing his "son, business partner and best friend", said Boyd asked for time off until after New Year as he had woodwork of his own to complete.

But on the night of Sunday, January 12, he reminded Boyd it was "back to work tomorrow".

When Boyd failed to arrive at work, on a building site, Mr Taylor made the grim discovery on checking his son's bedroom after returning home.

Mr Taylor, at a loss as to why his son would want to take his life, said: "He never said he was depressed.

"If he had just talked to me it could have been sorted. I wish I'd known. I could have done something.

"But that was it. I just found him. He never left any note."

Mr Taylor, who has thrown himself back into work to try to overcome his grief, added that Boyd was very talented and could turn his hand to making anything.
