MEMBERS of Fishburn Amateur Boxing Club performed well in the North-East schoolboy championships at the weekend.

Carl Thompson was defeated in the semi-final on a majority decision by Kevin Ringwood of Hartlepool, who went on to take the title.

Fishburn's Joe Davidson reached the final in his division, beaten only by Dave Curran of Birtley, who is the current schoolboy and English champion. The championships at Cramlington also included the presentation of a gold award to Paul Warnett of Fishburn for winning the national ABA novice cruiserweight title.

Trainer Alan Robinson said it had been a good start.

Meanwhile, the Fishburn club has joined forces with Bishop Auckland to put on a show at Eldon Lane WMC on February 28.
