A REVIEW of activities at a Darlington business will inevitably lead to job losses.

But any redundancies at conservatory manufacturer Amdega will not be because the company is in trouble.

The past five years have been the most successful in the company's 128-year history, with improvements in financial performance reported during each year.

The trend has continued despite the difficult trading environment, with turnover increasing by more than 13 per cent last year. Amdega has also developed new products.

Managing director Colin Taylor said: "The company is also striving to improve productivity and manufacturing efficiency, to ensure that its competitiveness in the market place is strengthened by the adoption of best manufacturing practice.

"As part of this process, Amdega is currently undertaking a full review of all of its activities to ensure that its resources are balanced with its needs and that any inefficiencies are addressed.

"Whilst this review has not yet been completed, it is apparent that improvements can be made in certain areas and it is therefore probable that a number of positions will become surplus to requirements."

It is not known how many jobs could be lost, but it is believed the final figure could be about 20.
