A MAN who was fascinated by knives was jailed yesterday for a street stabbing.

Teesside Crown Court heard how Craig Fairweather, 26, ended a row with a friend by going into his home and arming himself with a knife with an 8in blade.

He then stabbed fellow heroin addict Michael Todd as they tussled in bushes, said Shaun Dryden, prosecuting.

Mr Todd, who was bleeding heavily after being stabbed under the arm, walked to nearby Stockton police station and was taken to hospital.

Fairweather's girlfriend told police he was fascinated by knives and had used one in a 1997 robbery for which he was jailed for four years.

Peter Sabiston, defending, said Fairweather was provoked into the fight by Mr Todd, who was armed with a 3ft piece of wood.

At the time of the offence, Fairweather was on bail for tricking a woman out of £100 she had handed over for a saxophone he was supposedly selling. He was traced because he left his son's school satchel in her car.

Fairweather, of Paxton Close, Stockton, was jailed for 21 months after he pleaded guilty to attempted deception on February 3, last year, and the unlawful wounding, on June 6.
