AN 87-year-old woman is hoping someone can help her find a memento of a royal meeting that took place in 1927.

Eva Swanson, of Sunderland, recalls meeting Princess Mary at Lumley Castle when she was 11 years old, but has no photographs of the occasion.

Now her daughter, Sue Atashsokhan, has written to the castle to ask if anyone has any pictures of that special day which her mother could have.

Sue, from Stamford Street, Humbeldon, said: "My mother was small for her age and placed in the front row. Her own mother died when she was just three and she doesn't have any photographs at all of her youth."

Although the castle does not have archive photography, it is helping in the search. Anyone who can help should call the castle's marketing manager Peter Darrant on (0191) 389 1111.
