A MAJOR water mains renewal scheme, which brought disruption to the heart of a city centre, has finished.
Northumbrian Water's £3m scheme to replace ageing mains in Durham led to the closure of the only road leading to the cathedral and castle last month.
As part of the scheme, a section of Saddler Street between the Market Place and Magdalene Steps was closed.
Two further planned closures, this weekend and next, will not take place.
Northumbrian Water said quick-drying resin was used to seal the mains, meaning the work was finished sooner than anticipated.
