A MAN appeared in court yesterday accused of causing the deaths of his best friend and an 81-year-old woman in a car collision on a country lane on Valentine's Day.
Colin John Richmond, 45, was remanded in custody by Harrogate magistrates to appear at York Crown Court on Monday.
Mr Richmond, of Ashmoore House, Dragon Road, Harrogate, is accused of causing the deaths by dangerous driving.
Anthony Michael Pickles, 39, of The Avenue, Starbeck, Harrogate, was a passenger in Mr Richmond's Mitsubishi, and Joan Bullock, of Carr Manor Drive, Alwoodley, Leeds, was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Ralph, 80.
The accident occurred on the B6451 Otley to Summerbridge road, at Norwood, near Harrogate, on February 14.
Mr Richmond is also facing charges of driving while disqualified and not having insurance at the time of the accident.
