A FERRYHILL man was the only church representative invited to an exhibition opened by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Bill Price was invited to the launch of an exhibition in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, to commemorate the anniversary of a terrible flood.
Mr Price, who was born and grew up in Ferryhill, moved to Lincolnshire some years ago and is leader of the Mablethorpe Salvation Army.
The exhibition was to mark the East Coast Floods of January 31, 1953, which claimed many lives in the twin towns of Mablethorpe and Sutton.
Prince Philip visited the area shortly after the disaster and has continued to take an interest in how sea defences are being maintained.
Mr Price, whose sisters Eva Pearson and Winnie Anderson still live in Ferryhill, said he was privileged to be invited to the opening of the exhibition.
