HEARING dogs will give demonstrations at one of the country's biggest exhibitions for the deaf.
The dogs will be at a Spotlight on Deafness exhibition at County Hall, Durham, on Thursday next week from 10am until 4pm. The event, which is free, has been organised by Durham County Council's social services.
TV weatherman Bob Johnson will open the event, which will feature video-phones, currently installed at social services offices and County Hall, products for the deaf and stands run by local organisations.
There will be a series of workshops, activities and demonstrations.
Durham and Darlington Fire Brigade will promote smoke alarms for deaf people which warn of danger with strobe lighting and a vibrating mat, which can be placed under the pillow.
Anna Knighton, sponsorship officer with Durham social services, said: "We will be hosting a series of workshops covering current issues for deaf people.
"The event is being promoted to social services clients , deaf clubs and societies, voluntary organisations, and professionals in health and social care across the region."
