Willington under-18s will not be able to repeat last season's feat of winning three trophies.

They lost 2-1 away to Coundon & Leeholme in the semi final of the Auckland and District EBAC Youth League Cup on Saturday, but the Hall Lane lads are already though to two finals, in the Lady Eden Hospital Cup and the South

West Durham Presidents Cup. Last season Willington won all three trophies. Early pressure finally paid off for Coundon as they took the lead midway through the first half through Dale Jardine. The Coundon lads made it 2-0 midway through the second half with a well-taken goal from Anthony Ebden.

John Richardson scored a consolation goal for Willington with four minutes to go.

Bishop Auckland are at home to Meadowfield in the other semi final tomorrow.

In the league, Ferryhill drew 2-2 at home to Spennymoor Legion in their bottom two clash. Tony Morgan and MoM Chris Hodgson were on target for Ferryhill, Terry Garside and Lewis Robinson the Legion marksmen.

Newton Aycliffe drew 2-2 at home to Barnard Castle, the home side missing a last minute penalty. Simon Quinn and Michael Todd got the goals for Aycliffe, Jonathan Kellett and Andrew Rodriguez Vanilla netting for the Barney boys.

Willington Boys under-14s gained a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to Durham County in the Russell Foster junior football league. MoM Joe Fairish scored the all-important goal, and there was a promising debut from new signing Gareth Walton.

Bishop Auckland St. Mary's under-14s were too strong for hosts Thirsk Falcons in the second round of the Teesside Junior Alliance League Cup, winning 3-1 away with goals from Michael Slater, Lawrence Oliver and Daniel Watson.

The St. Mary's under-14s likewise gave a good all-round team performance to win 4-1 away to Teesside Athletic in the league. Karl Wilson (2), Michael Gibson and Danny Bell got the goals.

The under-12s gave a good account of themselves in losing 1-0 away to Coundon & Leeholme in the league, and the Bishops under-10s also put up a fine performance in their 1-0 defeat away to Hartlepool Brinkburn in the quarter finals of the league cup with Connor Louth having an outstanding game in goal for Bishops.
