George Tremain, one of Ryedale's best known primary school teachers, is celebrating 25 years at the same school.

During his career, Mr Tremain has educated 800 pupils from Thornton-le-Dale. He is also chairman of the Inter-School Sports Committee, which arranges fixtures in a wide range of sports for 25 primary schools in Ryedale.

DIG STORY: An illustrated talk on the archaeological excavation which discovered the remains of a warrior queen and her chariot at Wetwang will be given at the Galtres Centre, in Easingwold, on March 15 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3 for adults, £1 for children.

MUSIC TREAT: The Bakelite Boys will be performing Pop Goes the Century, charting the cultural ebbs and flows of pop music in the 20th Century, at the Galtres Centre, in Easingwold, on March 14. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children.

CHARITY SALE: An auction sale in support of Christian Aid is to be held at Allhallowgate Methodist Church, in Ripon, on March 29 from 2pm. Donations of goods are required and should be at the hall by 10am on the morning of the sale.

CHORAL CONCERT: Harrogate Choral Society will be performing Bach's St John's Passion at Ripon Cathedral on March 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £11 and concessions are available. They can be bought at Ripon Travel or at the door.

NO TAKEAWAY: A scheme to change a listed building into a fast food takeaway has been turned down following a Government planning inquiry. Ahmet Tamar wanted to convert empty shop units in Eastgate Square, Pickering.
