TWO of North Yorkshire's county courts have been awarded Charter Marks, in recognition of their "excellence" in public service.
Harrogate and Scarborough County Courts won the accolade by consulting with users and catering for people with special needs.
Harrogate County Court has raised awareness of what it does by placing information posters at various places and introducing comment cards and books for suggestions on how service can be improved.
It has also developed close working relationships with the local Citizens Advice Bureau.
In an attempt to explain court procedures to people, Scarborough County Court held an open day that featured a mock trial.
The membership of the court user group has also increased and, as a response to feedback, court signs have been improved.
The court also organised a meeting for local users as a way of helping court staff and solicitors improve the way they work.
