A MUSICAL trio from Teesside Preparatory School, in Eaglescliffe, are another step closer to success in a national competition.

The recorder trio of Hannah Peerless, 11, Annabelle Wright, ten, and Sarah Braithwaite, 11, won their section in the Edinburgh semi-finals earlier this month, and now go to the finals of the National Chamber Music Competition, in Oxford, on Saturday.

TALL TALES: Cleveland Retired Men's Association heard Yorkshire stories told by Mary Bielby, from Loftus, at their latest meeting. Tales included the Richmond Drummer Boy, the disgraced monk of St Leonard's Priory and a Yorkshire hamlet's survival from marauding Vikings.

PUB WALK: Regulars of The Frigate Pub, Marske, will walk 23 miles for charity from the Whitby Whale Bones to the pub on the May Day Bank Holiday, May 5. Organisers hope to raise £4,000 for the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team.

MELODY MAKERS: The Melody Makers, a group of singers from Redcar, performed a sing-along concert at Hinton Court, Guisborough, recently. The event was organised by The Zetland Methodists Fellowship Group.

SECURITY BOOST: People living on the Easterside estate and in Saltersgill, Middlesbrough, have won £4,000 from the Community Support Fund to buy and fit security locks and devices for their homes.

GHOST STORIES: There is the chance to hear ghost stories, myths and legends of Hartlepool Headland on Monday, from 6.30pm to 8pm. To take part, call Steve Robbins on (01429) 523421.

SPRING WALK: A five-mile walk around Embleton will take place on Sunday. Anyone interested is asked to meet at Tilery Wood car park, Castle Eden Walkway, near Thorpe Thewles, at 9.30am.
