THE organisers of the BBC TV Blue Peter Bikeathon in Darlington are looking for someone to open the charity event later this year.

The event is being held on Sunday, May 4, to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

The Darlington cycle event will take place in South Park and crowds of youngsters have already signed up for the challenge.

Although Blue Peter presenters are opening some of the other races around the country, no-one has yet agreed to start the Darlington event.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "If we can't get a celebrity or sports personality it would be really good to get someone to dress up as Bob the Builder or Fireman Sam.

"We're hoping for a fantastic turn-out from kids in the Darlington area and it would be a lovely surprise for them to have a famous face at the event."
