North Winter Alliance: With conditions more becoming of a summer's day, the last of this season's winter alliances got under way at Pannal Golf Club again with an entry of 87 pairs.
As in previous events the alliances are as popular as ever, but this was the day of the low handicappers, proving that Pannal is not for the faint-hearted.
With three scratch players, one player with one and one off two in the top four places, it was the big guns that came together for the final alliance.
The Harrogate pairing of Ian McDougal and Tim Moorhouse with a 62 net taking top honours from Malcolm Clegg and Tom Davis (Ripon City) with 64, an excellent demonstration of how to play the par 3s came from Neil Feegon (1) and Paul Johnson (scr) from Harrogate, to birdie all four par 3s.
Winners: Ian McDougal (7) and Tim Moorhouse (2) Harrogate, 62; runners-up, Malcolm Clegg (12) and Tim Davis (Scr), Ripon City 64; 3rd David Hall (11) and Steve Tomkinson (Scr) Otley 64; 4th Neil Feegan (1) and Paul Johnson (Scr) Harrogate 65; 5th Mike Smith (5) and Simon Kippax (5) Pannal 65; 6th Bruce Hornsey (9) and Daniel Hornsey (20) Thirsk and Northallerton 65.
