Fire crews were called to the Dabble Duck Industrial Estate, in Shildon, after 1,000 plastic pallets were set alight.

It took three fire engines - two from Bishop Auckland and one from Newton Aycliffe - almost an hour to put out the fire in an enclosed yard near Blue Diamond on the estate.

HERITAGE GROUP: The Whitworth Church Heritage Group is inviting the people of Pagebank and Whitworth to bring old photographs and newspaper cuttings to the church on Sunday, between noon and 4pm. A heritage trail is planned for July.

PARTNERSHIP MEETS: The Crook Community Partnership is holding its next meeting on Thursday, at 7pm, in the partnership office in Hope Street.

FASHION SHOW: The Friends of Hunwick Primary School are holding a children's fashion show tomorrow, at 7pm. Tickets cost £1 and are available at the door or from the school.

PUBLIC DEBATE: The Woodhouse Close Residents' Action Group, in Bishop Auckland, is holding a public meeting on Thursday, at 7pm, in the community centre in Proudfoot Drive.

SPRING FAIR: Trinity Methodist Church, Rosa Street, Spennymoor, is holding a spring fair on Saturday, at 11am. Hot lunches and sweets will be served from 11.30am.

ACTIVITIES CHANGE: There is a change in the times of the children's activities at Howden-le-Wear Community Centre. The Friday disco for five to eight-year-olds is now from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, while the nine to 12-year-olds' disco is from 6.30pm to 8pm. On Saturdays, the bouncy castle session for children up to five is from 9.30am to 10.15am, six to eights from 10.15am to 11am, and nine to 12-year-olds from 11am to noon.

COFFEE MORNINGS: The staff at Crook library are organising coffee mornings every Tuesday. Proceeds go to local charities.

EASTER FAIR: The Wear Valley Twinning Association is holding an Easter fair at the Park Avenue Community Centre, Crook, on Saturday, April 12, from 11am to 1pm.

FEET FORWARD: A day of entertainment called All Feet Forward will take place at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, from noon, on Tuesday, April 8. The event is the result of a series of workshops for people with learning disabilities, funded by Wear Valley District and Sedgefield Borough councils, Greenfields Community College and County Durham Care.

TOWN COUNCIL: The next meeting of Spennymoor Town Council's allotments committee is tomorrow, at 6.45pm, in the town hall, Spennymoor. It will be followed by the finance and general purposes committee meeting.
