COMPUTER kiosks that will give people access to council services are about to be installed throughout Sunderland.
The Labour-run authority hopes to maintain its ranking in the premiership of councils by making it easier for residents to access its help.
About 40 booths will be placed in main streets throughout the council's area as part of its four-year Peoplefirst campaign to ensure it retains its excellent rating in the Government's comprehensive performance assessment.
The council said it would be investing millions of pounds in providing better services, improved facilities, staff training and technology intended to improve the quality of life for the city's residents.
Chief executive Colin Sinclair said: "We have worked very closely with our citizens' panel, Community Spirit, to draw up these proposals, which are all about making it easier to contact the council and other public services."
An exhibition outlining the council's proposals is on display in the City Library, Fawcett Street, during library opening hours. It runs until Thursday, April 17.
