Prince Harry is following in his older brother's footsteps - after belting out a string of karaoke tunes to pub regulars on a field trip.

Three years ago, Prince William showed how he had developed a singing talent after becoming the star of an impromptu sing-song at the Crossways Hotel, in Thornley, east Durham.

Now, not to be outdone by his big brother, Harry has showed he too can hold a note when he stole the show on the same stage, at the same hotel.

Harry seemingly fancies himself as a bit of a John Travolta, after delighting drinkers with a version of the Grease hit, Summer Loving.

Harry was with 39 other students and four teachers from Eton College on an A-level geography field trip, looking at the impact of industry on the North-East environment.

Each day, the group visited mines throughout County Durham and Tyneside before heading back to their digs.

Hotel manager John Hudson had been under strict instructions to keep news of his regal arrival a closely guarded secret.

But the cat was let out of the bag when Prince Harry was first on stage for the karaoke challenge, on Friday night.

Harry and four of his closest pals jumped on stage to bawl out their version of the Dexy's Midnight Runners hit Come on Eileen.

But that wasn't enough.

He then took up the challenge to sing the John Travolta part from the Summer Loving song from Grease, while local girls Kirstie Hubury, 17, and 16-year-olds Nicola Ord and Joanne Thompson were Olivia Newton-John for the night.

Kirstie said: "He was a really down to earth teenager.

"He didn't act like a prince and he was just like anyone else having a good time with his friends."
