Sedgefield 75 ASC enjoyed a golden weekend at Newcastle in the Northumberland and Durham Age Group championships with six swimmers competing they gained eight gold four silver and two bronze medals. Swimming in 20 events they made 15 finals.

The swimmers taking part were Charlotte Nichols, Angte Winstanley Smith, Mark Richardson. Martin Nichols, Stephen Turnbull and Kate Parsons.

Charlotte took gold in the 50m breaststroke, Kate swam in the 200m, the 200m backstroke and was reserve finalist in the 200m breaststroke.

Angie swam in the 50m FS, the 100m FS, the 200m FS and the 400m FS. The swims gave her a clean sweep of the freestyle events, producing four gold medals. Her wins in the 200m 1M and the 100m IM took her total of County gold medals to six. She had to settle for silver in the 50m butterfly. This was a stunning return to form for Sedgefield's former Junior International. Stephen competed in the 100m and 1500m FS taking the bronze medal in the 1500m.

Martin swam in the 200m and 100m breaststroke winning gold and silver medals. He swam in the 400m IM and the 200m IM taking silver in the 400m IM. He gained fifth. place in the 50m butterfly.

Mark competed in the 100m FS and won a silver medal in the 5On breaststroke.

In the overall N and D category awards Angie was placed second and Martin was placed third.

For the year 2002 Sedgefield's award for the Pursuit of Excellence Trophy went to Martin Nichols and the Swimmer of the Year Trophy was awarded to Ryan Caws.

The junior swimmers of Sedgefield 75 ASC got the season of to a good start. The seven who competed at Berwick Hills. Middlesborough were Andrew Dewar, Michael Scott, Scott Carpenter, Ryan Caws, Daniel Bottomley, Robbie Stephenson and Rebecca. Hailes, between them they made twenty three finals in the galas held over the weekends of 22 and 23 February and March 1 and 2.

Andrew Dewar was second in the 1500m freestyle, fifth in the 100m freestyle and third in the 200m and fourth in the 400m freestyle. In the 200m and 100m backstroke he was placed fifth and eighth. He was placed seventh in the 100m IM.

Michael Scott took third place in both 200m and 100m breaststroke. Scott Carpenter was second in the 100m backstroke.

Ryan Caws was second in the 200m butterfly. In the 400m, 200m and 100m freestyle he was placed fifth, fourth and fifth in the 200m backstroke he was sixth. Ryan competed in both the 200m and 100m IM and was placed seventh and seventh and fifth. He took seventh place in the 100m breaststroke.

Robbie Stephenson was placed seventh in the 200m butterfly.

Rebecca Hailes was placed fourth in the 200m butterfly and fifth 50m butterfly. In the 200m freestyle

and the 50m freestyle she came seventh and eighth. Rebecca was placed 5th in the 200m IM.

The Senior swimmers will be competing at Newcastle in the Northumberland and Durham Championships during the weekend March 15 and 16 March and they will without question be looking to equal or better the superb performances set by the Junior Squad members.
