Catterick Garrison has confirmed that another batch of former Army quarters are to be sold.

Annington acquired the leases of hundreds of former Ministry of Defence homes around the UK in 1997, and has been given permission to sell 2,000, as long as 50 per cent go to families with services connections.

Properties in Catterick Garrison have been among the houses put on the market, and prices are so low that potential buyers have been camping outside the sales office.

The next batch of properties will go on sale on Friday, April 11, and, already, four people have set up home on the Annington estate to be sure they don't miss out.

Prices for the two-bedroomed homes start at £65,950, about £30,000 less than the cost of an average home in the UK.

Annington's regional sales manager, Anita Brown, said: "The popularity of these properties is indicative of the difficulty many people are having in buying a house, especially in the North of England where prices are still rising.

"With prices generally exceeding salaries, people are recognising the excellent value for money our properties represent."
