A FATHER and a son are recovering in hospital after being attacked in the street.
Bob Martin, 66, and Gary Martin, 42, suffered serious head and facial injuries when they were punched and kicked by a man in a lane at the top of Ascot Street, Easington Colliery, east Durham, on Sunday night. Both were knocked unconscious.
They were taken to Hartlepool's University Hospital and Gary Martin was later transferred to Middlesbrough General.
Both are described as being in a stable condition and neither has life-threatening injuries.
The attack happened between 11.20pm and 11.40pm and detectives are still trying to establish a motive.
A 19-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is being held at Peterlee police station.
