FOOTBALL fans who turn up to watch a celebrity match at the weekend could find themselves appearing in a feature film.

The film Down Amongst the Dead Men is based on the autobiography Flipper's Side by disabled Darlington FC supporter Paul Hodgson.

The match, at Darlington's Feethams ground on Sunday is between The TV Allstars, captained by Coronation Street's Tommy Nelson - actor Tom Craig - and a team of legendary ex Darlington players, captained by Kevan Smith.

Playing for the Allstars will be Coronation Street actors Michael Le Vell (who plays Kevin Webster), Alan Halsall (Tyrone), Andy Whyment (Kirk) and Chris Bisson (Vikram).

The team also includes Hollyoak's Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson) and Brookside's Philip Olivier (Tim "Tinhead" O Leary).

Also playing are footballers Asa Hartford (ex-Manchester City), Len Cantello (West Bromwich Albion) and Liverpool and Newcastle legend Alan Kennedy.

Among former Darlington players will be Mark Prudhoe, David Speedie, Andy Toman and Steve Tupling.

John Vickerman, of Richmond, North Yorkshire, will also be taking part after pledging £520 in a charity auction to take the field.

Actress Denise Welch, already cast in the film, will join other well known faces in the supporters' lounge and directors' box, all pledging their support to the film.

She said: "It is a beautifully-written film and I think one of the most important and original screenplays I've seen in the past ten years. What makes it particularly exciting for me is the fact these boys are from the North East."

The film-makers will be at the ground to record crowd scenes, some of which will appear in the movie.

Tickets for the match, which kicks off at 2pm, are on sale in the Darlington Club Shop for £5, £2.50, of which will go to charity
