A SHOP assistant wants to raise £1,000 for a children's charity when she runs her first London marathon next month.
Joanne Singleton, 24, of Cockton Hill, Bishop Auckland, will take part in the 26-mile road race on Sunday, April 13, to raise money for Childline.
She is part of a 100-strong Marks and Spencer team with a sponsorship target of £100,000.
Ms Singleton, who works in the food section of the town's store, said: "I have completed the Great North Run twice but this is a real challenge, I'm running long distances at least four days a week.
"I hope it will be a fantastic day an a chance to raise much needed funds for a worthwhile charity."
Anyone who wants to help can make donations in store.
