PRIMARY school pupils sprang into action yesterday to celebrate being awarded a top sporting accolade.
Peases West Primary School, in Crook, held a fun day packed with healthy activities in celebration of gaining an Activemark Gold award from Sport England.
The award is the top honour presented to schools in recognition of outstanding commitment to promoting health and fitness.
Headteacher Judith Stirk said: "We make every effort to encourage all pupils to get involved in sport, to live healthier lifestyles.
"Within the curriculum we provide a varied programme of sports to try and find something all children will enjoy.
"Out-of-school clubs, such as walking, table tennis, cricket and dance, are very well attended and an important part of the sports provision. We are thrilled with the award and wanted to celebrate with this Active Day for All, even before we have received the certificate."
Children and parents also enjoyed a walk around Billy Row and Stanley led by Lynn Wilson, project co-ordinator for the Wear Walking for Health initiative, which the school helped to launch at Auckland Castle last October.
