ONE hundred people have been fined for dropping litter in Darlington in the past two weeks.
The fines were issued by Darlington Borough Council's team of uniformed wardens for littering, fly-tipping and dog fouling offences.
They have been imposed as part of the council's anti-litter campaign, which was launched last November and is being supported by The Northern Echo.
Since the launch of the campaign more than 170 fines have been issued by the wardens, who patrol the town's streets and open spaces on the look out for litter-louts.
Money from the fines is invested in the anti-litter campaign and uniformed warden anti-litter training.
Terry Collins, assistant director of environmental services at Darlington Borough Council, said: "The message is clear - we will not tolerate littering in our town.
"We are working hard to stamp out littering and make Darlington a cleaner place."
