TOURISM is the biggest contributor to the North York Moors National Park economy, according to chief executive Andy Wilson.
He was speaking at the first tourism forum at Pickering last week, attended by more than 60 representatives from leading tourist attractions.
The Moors and Coast Sustainable Tourism Project was discussed. The project promotes green tourism schemes that attract visitors while preserving the area's environment.
The forum gave members of the National Park Authority a chance to meet the people running local businesses.
Mr Wilson said: "It was a chance for us all to put our heads together and discuss the impact of tourism on the land. While we want more people to come here, we have to limit their effects on the land."
The summer Moorsbus went into service yesterday, collecting people from Richmond, Northallerton and Catterick Garrison.
