THOUSANDS of people delved into the past at a local history fair at the weekend.
Yesterday Belongs To You was held at County Hall in Durham on Saturday and was aimed at enthusiasts of local and family history.
The fair, hailed as the biggest event of its kind in the region, started life ten years ago and has proved increasingly popular.
Scores of local history organisations took stands, along with museums and records offices, libraries and other groups.
Durham county archivist Jennifer Gill said the event "proved immensely popular with both visitors and exhibitors". She said: "It's an opportunity for a wide range of museums, libraries, record offices, local and family history societies and many other groups to come together to help celebrate all aspects of the county's rich heritage.
"People come from far and wide to meet and talk to local history societies, buy books and delve into their family's past. There's always something for everyone - from the serious researcher to those who just want to find out a little more about the history of their family, house or village. It's a gold mine of information, with enthusiastic, friendly people who have a wealth of experience to guide you in the right direction or pass on tips of the trade."
