DAY care clients have given a fine performance as the finale to weeks of workshops.

Groups from learning disability centres in the Wear Valley and Sedgefield districts celebrated with music, art, song and dance at an event called All Feet Forward, in Bishop Auckland Town Hall.

Visual artist Rhonda Fleming and Kate Laundsen, from Newcastle-based Tin Productions, guided the performers through hours of rehearsals in Greenfield Community College, Newton Aycliffe.

Lunch and a disco followed the hour-long show in the town hall's Eden Theatre.

The project followed a successful music event a year ago, which resulted in the production of a compact disc of music.

Stephen Wiper, arts development officer for Sedgefield Borough Council, said: "It has been a brilliant project. Tin Productions have been fantastic to work with and the performance was amazing.

"This is about building skills and confidence and giving people from the centres the same access to arts and chance to take part that everybody else has."

The programme was funded by the two councils, the college and County Durham Care.
