A COUPLE died in a blaze in their North-East home early yesterday.
The man, aged 28, and his 43-year-old female partner were pulled out of their home near Gateshead, but were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire officers, police and paramedics were called to the house in Cloverhill, Sunniside, Whickham, just after 1am yesterday.
A neighbour had raised the alarm but by the time the emergency services could reach the house, it was well alight and the couple were trapped, a police spokesman said.
"The man and woman were removed from the house but unfortunately, despite the efforts of the paramedics, police officers and fire officers, they were pronounced dead," he said.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
