Joe McCarthy, who is credited with playing a major role in reviewing and modernising the delivery of council services at Middlesbrough, has been appointed chief executive of the Cleveland Police Authority on a salary of just over £98,000.
Mr McCarthy who left the council to take up a senior post with Amey plc, takes over from Peter Riley as top official with the police authority when he retires in May.
Authority chairman Councillor Ken Walker said Mr McCarthy's experience of managing change would be crucial in taking forward the developments of police services in the area.
