A SCHOOL plans to proceed with a diocese inspection just days after part of the building was gutted by fire.
About £60,000 worth of equipment was destroyed in a fire at St Anne's CE Primary School, Bishop Auckland, on Sunday.
The school's reception classroom was destroyed and two adjoining classrooms smoke-logged in the fire, which is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Headteacher Henry Jopling said the school hopes to reopen tomorrow, in time for a visit of diocese inspectors at the end of the week.
He said: "It is heart-breaking for everyone to lose so much in the fire. In our last Ofsted report we were praised for being very well resourced as we had new computers and learning equipment and 15 years of material".
Insurance assessors will visit the school in Warwick Road before a clean-up operation can begin.
